Description

Russia 1758 2 Kopeks VG-F (VG-10)

Elizabeth of Russia, also known as Empress Elizaveta Petrovna Romanova, was the daughter of Peter the Great and ruled as Empress of Russia from 1741 to 1762. Known for her vibrant personality and love for the arts, she promoted Russian culture, patronized architecture, and helped establish Russia as a cultural center. Elizabeth ascended the throne through a coup d état, replacing her cousin, the infant Ivan VI. Her reign was marked by a period of relative peace and prosperity, and she avoided major European conflicts until the Seven Years War, in which Russia played a significant role. Elizabeth abolished capital punishment in Russia and focused on legal reforms, earning her popularity among her people. Despite her strong influence, she left no direct heirs, and after her death, her nephew Peter III succeeded her, marking the beginning of a new era in Russian history.
